What is sliding door gear?

Sliding door gear is the collective term for the track, rollers and fixings used to hang a door so it slides horizontally rather than swinging on hinges. It covers everything from a simple wardrobe sliding door track to a complete pocket door kit, which houses the door inside the wall cavity itself when open, saving floor space entirely. The gear needs to be rated to the weight of the door being hung, so choosing the right kit is as much about the door's size and material as its style.
